Here's my '59.

The car's been in my custody for around five years ...already.
It's been off manditory daily driver status for the last couple years, but is still driven regularly/often.
Here's a geocities site I made about 4 yrs ago.
I lost the password.
It hasn't changed since. (http://www.geocities.com/louisbeaumier/blasterspace.html)

Only missed a couple SAAC meetings since there's been a SAAC.
OG brakes, no radio, no heater, no gas guage (or tap), no blinkers.
I love it!
I think I need to splurge and UP-grade to wide-5 front discs.
It hasn't changed much in the last couple years.
After alot of work, it's found a happy place and has been an extraordinarily dependable time machine.
What a great car.
It still runs strong! :D http://www.vosaclub.org/phpBB2/images/avatars/155332483544efdcc861ac5.jpg

Hey Bala...how you is?
Not sure who made the fixture, but it uses the typical big-old Ford/Mopar PH8A (Fram), FL1A (Motorcraft).
Isn't the HP1 like the same as a PH8A, but like a hot-rod version?
I blew apart a Bosch brand.
They should probably stick to electrics. :D
I'm good, how's about you?
Yeah, the HP1 is the racing version. I've heard that there is alot of preasure on the remote filters and a PH8A can blow the seal sometimes. I've had good luck with the HP1 so far. It's a little pricey at 8 or so bucks though.

2" drop spindles.
New links and pins
Dual circuit upgrade
I also have an anti-sway bar that I may or may not rush to try out.

http://www.vosaclub.org/uploads/100_2025.jpg
All that money and effort and it looks about the same.
That's ok...it rides great!
No more driving around like I was racing slalom...to avoid any and all bumps in the road.
It stops VERY well even with no proprtioning valve.
I got it to lock up (which the car had never done before), but I was applying panic pressure.
I need to re-engineer the reservoir mounting and supply lines.
My alignment feels pretty good....I'll get it checked.
I also need to go over every fastener and bend over locking tabs...check wheel bearings...yada...
It's a brave new world with no more adjusting.
Very pleased! :)

Yeah, with the 2" beam and droped spindles you end up almost no narrower (maybe 3/8"/side or so) but the ride is much better and with the disks there is no comparison in the power and smoothness. Good stuff! :)

I need to go up a click on the beam adjusters.
Getting a little tire rub on the top of the fender and the tire and jack and stuff are not even back in yet.

Hit the corners of the sway-bar a couple times on the road as well as the tire well on some parking blocks a couple times...DANG! (not severe)
No proportioning valve and they work great.

It was necessary with the drums.

That's awsome Louis! I've been thinking about wiring mine up like that. Do you have a toggle switch to select semiphores vs turn signals? Got a wiring diagram I can see? :)
BLASTER
09-09-2007, 01:19 AM
Thankee!
I left the semaphore switch on the column.
Mine's broken off to a nub...looks like a toggle switch now.
I ran all new wires for the turn signals, since I would have had to run an additional wire to the back anyways...leaving the OG wiring intact, but unplugged.
The Samba has all the diagrams you need.
I wired mine like a '61, but with the early 6-wire switch.
Seen above, I printed out the '61 and '58, both Euro and US on a big ass printer at work.
Should make a nice poster now!
VintageBus.com has diagrams too.
Let me know if you have any questions, seeing how I'm an old pro now.

Yeah...I think it is stock height...maybe some wussed out springs.
I can't dump it (and don't want to) cuz I wouldn't get it up my steepish driveway.
I have to hit it at an angle as it is and I still get a "zing" off the collector...worse with more bodies in the car.
These 205's can't last forever.
I want to up-size when the time comes.
There's plenty of space and I like the hot-rod rake anyways...not too severe of course.

While the motor was out I pulled the rockers for an inspection and checked head bolt/nut torque...and added a .010 shim next to a rocker.
Lost interest in replacing valve springs, but bought them anyways and will do that another day.

Five years and no noticeable wear across the face of rocker tips when you run your fingernail across them.
These are the genuine Porsche 911 swivels with shortened and re-slotted adjuster ends.
Notice the ground down stocker, rockers for clearance.
I had stock pushrods shortened 0.100" by a bud at Kendrick Automotive which gave me a perfect geometry with no shims under the rocker-shaft stands...just like the great Pat Rutledge (RIP) told me it would have.
All confirmed with books and dial indicators.
Thanks Pat!
I don't even use a feeler guage to adjust them (cold).
I just make sure they turn, the pushrod spins and I can't hear them when I move them.

This shows the "Truss bar" (aka Kafer bar, aka torque bar) and how it's bracing (triangulating?) the frame horns and making the engine rigid, ending any wheels hop.
The lower bracket was relocated to between the cradle and the frame horns.
Figured that out when I went to put on the j-tubes and they wouldn't fit.
Jacking with the trans-strap added some time too.
http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x66/BLASTERsk8/BW%201915/100_4939.jpg
It was a major jigsaw puzzle and a pain in the butt to install.
It is of a very high quality and made in the USA by Bugpack....reasonably priced.

Here you can see the notched cradle and supre slimey frame horns....a project for whenever the trans explodes.
I'm very pleased at the very solid way the car feels with this Truss Bar.
The US made 1700 Kennedy feels good too with stock Japanese disc.
The "good German" throw-out-bearing IS making noise at about a half depressed clutch pedal....this being one of the main reasons I started taking this thing apart in the first place.
Piss me off!
