i'm in Abilene, Texas. i tried starting my own VW club last year, but had a really hard time getting people to come see what i wanted it to be all about. i've been on and off the aircoolers site for a few years now. i recently got back on after i discovered it had "come back" from the last web site going down or what not. i've met and hung with a few of you at the classic and would like to continue meeting you all at various events. since i've been here in Abilene, it's been kinda hard to attend any monthly meetings at either FWAC or DAC or AAC or any surrounding area as it's still quite a trip for me. i used to live in Round Rock before joining the military. i'm now back in texas and proud to be back.
there are quite a few VW's in the Abilene area. what i would like to know is, who do i ask about establishing an aircoolers chapter here in Abilene? I would gladly "run" this chapter and recruite as many as i can. i've been approached by a few guys with ACVW's asking about a club. so i know if i can associate with the aircoolers, that i can get at least 4-5 guys involved in the Abilene chapter.
please help! i really miss being a part of a club/gang; although i already think i'm an aircooler, just have no where to call "home" yet. thanks in advance.

Hey joel!
It's joel from the KAC! Good to meet and chat with you for a bit at the classic...
Speaking from exprience in getting the KAC up and started, there's no dues, no fees, no one's in charge.... So guess who you talk to about permission to start another chapter?
The man in the mirror...
Get some fliers made up, start tagging people / cars you see around the area. Let 'em know what we're about, and what you wanna do as a chapter. Set up a meeting time and place and go from there. Like garrett always says: take lots of pictures! after a few good meetings, and a good sized group start going, then you can bug him about setting up an abilene area on the motherboard!:)
Thats about it man, good luck and happy hunting!

thanks Joel. i'll get some fliers going and start spreading the word. i just didn't want to step on anyone's toes and just claim a Abilene chapter without "permision".
since there is already a AAC, i think i will distinguish us as BCAC (Big Country Air Coolers) as this area is commonly reffered to as "the Big Country".
thanks again for the support! i will start my journey now.

Franklin VW would be a good place to put up a flyer at the parts dept. I would also check around Brownwood as it isn't that far away. I saw a 64 Bug listed in the Brownwood Bulletin.
You can advertise a group to tour down to the VW Classic. That might draw some interest.
If you want a chapter forum, let me know.

The main focus for you to concentrate on is getting some people in your area together to hang out, help out, rely on each other etc...
Get together, have a meeting or two, and take pictures!!!
Take pics of your (groups) rides, and show 'em all off.
Post some of 'em up here to let us check out your rides, see how much fun you're having....
Then after a couple of meet ups Shoot Conrad, or this guy (http://www.aircoolers.org/v/member.php?u=1) a PM, and say -
"hey Conrad/Garrett, we've been around awhile. How bout our own chapter link!!???"
And that's sort how I went about it.
It doesn't matter if you have thirty three hundred members, or four guys getting together. The point is is that you have a core group sticking together to enjoy VW's.
Good luck guys.
