There's this car show called Kars & Kids, sponsored by News Channel 8, happening this Saturday, April 28. It benefits the School for the Deaf, and takes place there along South Congress. We go by it on the first Thursday cruise.
I went last year and won the trophy for best import, post 1960. Wasn't too hard, there were only two other cars in the class, a Porsche and a Datsun 240Z. But it had a lot going on, especially for kids. Check out their website:

Anyone interested in meeting there, or have you had enough show from last weekend?

The Kars & Kids show was fun today. All of the proceeds from the show were going back into the mechanics/auto program at the Texas School for the Deaf. Some of you may have seen them on Monster Garage when they built a rat rod.
There were only a handful of imported cars in the show. Tom brought his beautiful 1969 Karmann Ghia and setup that nice display with an umbrella. If it weren't for his umbrella providing some shade I'm sure my wife would have wanted to leave before the show ended. THANKS TOM! :) It was nice to see such a diverse group of cars together and more than just car guys checking out the show. The entire show was judged by students from the Texas School for the Deaf. The 1956 Mercedes SLR replica (http://www.flickr.com/photos/billb23/476240748/in/set-72157600151812858/) won best Post-1940 Import class.

And it was great sitting behind Bill's even more beautiful '56 oval and seeing how many people got slugged after seeing his bug. That was the great thing about this show, lots of just regular folks, families, and couples out strolling the grass on a Saturday afternoon, and you get to see the reaction of non-car people to all the diverse vehicles. The kids especially like to see a bug, and of course all the adults have a volkswagen story to tell from the old days.
The fact that it was a benefit for the deaf school was great too. There was one older deaf guy that signed us that he had 3 bugs that he was working on. He kept bringing other groups of deaf people over to show them all the differences between my 1600 dp and Bill's original stock engine. And I heard lots of kids ask their parents where our engines were, since we had our trunks up. It was great, we should try to get a bigger group of dubs next year.
And thank you Bill and Felicia for helping me tear down after my wife left:o

I found out about another show late on Friday, Georgetown Red Poppy Festival, I decided to go and was the only AC VW there. Had lots of people around the vert all day. I can't count how many " I had a vw story" I was told. :p Had a great time and the wife could go shopping all day long.
