Okay I think I got the hang of this now. I didn't mean to imply that this was a "chat" room as such, but you know thats what happens. When you are up late and night for no particulare reason. I am looking forward to attending the next meeting. I guess since Fredricksburg I have been more motivated to go public with more interest in Volkswagens. For the record I have a silver 1971 Super Beatle which I brought back from the grave. I have to go to San Fransisco to get it, but it was well worth it. When I get a chance I will include more information. Okay thats it I am going to bed !

Hey VON bring me back a BURRITO from CHESTNUT ST. the restraunt is across from the parking garage (cant remember the name of the place) but they are HUGE !!!
Or you can cruise down to San Jose and bring me back some food from the "HAPPI HOUSE".
Okay noted. Now for anyone who might know. I have recently aquired a rather interesting sound that is to say. I can't tell where it is coming from. It is a high piched wine which doesn't seem inclided to do anything untill after the engine (1600cc) has been running for sometime. So, of course it is impossible to demenstate to anyone. When you reall need it to. I would appreciate any suggestions reasonable or otherwise.

First off, welcome....
I used to have a high pitched whining sound too, but I divorced it.
Seriously.....what kind of carb and air filter are you running?
I think I saw that one other time with one of those cheapy chrome air filters.......and it was normal, just the way it worked. Does it change when you step on the pedal?
Just guessing, after your choke lets up.....
how about a little more info?
Just trying to help, good luck :o
Ha Ha good one. I realized after I posted that maybe I didn't give enough information. So, here it goes I have a 1971 super beatle all standard accept for the a few modification which are the following: 1) Single port 1600cc engine which has been rebuilt. 2) a crome air filter who's name escapes me at the moment. 3) new distributer 4) blue coil 5) weber barb 6) new fan belt and a new roter. I drove it this morning and I didn't hear a bloody thing. It doesn't seem to happen all the time. You now funny thing I think it does change when you step on the pedal. Unfortunately since the sound isn't constant I am having a hard time pinning it down. I am not having any performance problems accept this sound wich seems to happen infrequently. Of course it has been at least 20+ years since I have worked on a VW. I am a little rusty. Thanks for the info !
Have you checked your speedometer cable?

Damn I forgot about that one, the speedo cable thing happened to me one time....check that. Mine was loose behind the gauge......high pitch wine.....infrequent, etc....
Trial and error....figure it out.
What part of town do you live on?
Where exactly is the sound coming from ?
Does it happen EVER at IDLE only?
The saga continues you know I didn't even think of the cable. Duh ! I will check it and see if is loose; however, in the mean time I feel compelled to share what happened to be recently. I stopped at a stop and rob-um to get something to eat. Okay its was terrible choice, but hey I was hungry and not thinking to clearly. There was a person, who we will call, ed. He took one look my car and after the confusion left his face. He said "what year is your bug". Standard question right nothing unusuall there. After I answered him he asking me "why I was still driving that thing". Okay now I am starting to get worried. What the blank blank and so and so I thought to myself do you mean "thing"? This is not a "thing" you so and so, but of course I didn't say that instead I decided to tell Ed my long winded car story. I figured that if I made it long enough he would leave; however, it wasn't working. Ed just cept going on and on about how horrible my car was. Okay I am used to this no problem. Then Ed went to far he asked "Are you driving that thing because you are an exhippie?". I didn't mind being called a hippie, but what did he mean exhippie? Yah so I did some radical things in the seventies. Why do thing I am such a wonderful speller? I am not assamed of any of them. Of course I don't remember what they were. I just didn't like being called an exhippie. I mean if he had said hippie. I would have been fine with that and to top it all off he said my car was old. Well ... yah of course its old that why its considered a classic ! Alls well that ends well; however, because later that day I was able to drive by some kids that thought my car was cool !

biggestdaddyo is still a hippie,..just lost the long hair,..Now Zozo,..wellhe is still a hippie with long hair,..I think he still grows the wackie tabbacie too:eek:  ,..
Hippie's of the world unite ! Does this mean I can let my hair grow long and my beard too? I tried the hair thing once, but it never seemed to work out. It just gets really thick and then its hopeless. Otherwise I am perfectly willing to activily embrace all aspects of hippie-dom. I don't know about flowers everwhere though. Driving the "bug" as it is is risky enough. I don't want to give people another reason to hit me. I have already ben clobered once. I got hit by someone driving while talking on a cell-phone. Imagine I drove all the way from San Fransisco to San Antonio without a single incident. Two months here and bam! She said "I hit you because I was trying to avoid hitting a truck". I never saw any bleedy truck. I know I know it didn't make sence to me either. On the plus side my crome bumper destroyed her grill. Steel meets plastic and steel wins. I have know idea what she had to pay for her own car, but I know what she had to pay for mine. Two thousand smackers somehow I think she is going to remember this little incident for sometime. Anyhow I just wanted to let everyone that after careful consideration I have decided that I definately could embrace hippie-dom again.
Come into the light. It's cooooooolllllllll in the light. Now where was I?
I don't smoke, I don't drink, and I damn sure don't drive a fast car. I'm high on anger!

I'm high on anger!
I can attest to that
Angers good ! Besides unless there is an emt involved I couldn't take anything even if I wanted to. I do observe the french method of driving; however, minus the hand gestures. I find it helps ease the tension if you can yell at others while drivers. You know with the windows up so no one can hear you. I am not insane despite what people say. Do they say I am insane? I wonder? Okay sorry lost my mind for a second. Coming into the light I remember know. Do you think it will help me find my car keys? O by the way does anyone know where I can get some good tires. I have the orignal rims and it has been a nightmare trying to find good tires. I thought about changing the rims and getting something bigger, but there might be a divorce involved. So I am going to try and get ones that match the rims. I would like to find some tires that have actuall tread on them. I had a truck once that had off road tire. I decided I really liked them and now its hard to think about anything else.
