Yeah I know we've done this before.....it needs to be done again, I have family coming to town :)
Here's mine...
Brother's Taco House on 35 south and Division
Awesome Chicken Fajitas!
Henry's on Nogalitos
If youv'e never tried this place......you absolutely have to. The ladies are rolling the tortillas fresh in the window when you walk in. There's no place to sit, it's strictly to go.... but you gotta swing by there, trust me
Patty's on Fair
Sausage Guisado....like no where else.
Mendez Cafe on Southcross
By far the best tortillas.
Los Antojitos on Culebra
Gilbert's on Marbach
Carne Guisda enchiladas!
Rancho Tejano on Bandera and Huebner
So let's hear your favorites!
I need some fresh ideas for the family....thanks

It's funny you should mention that Notcho....in the November issue of Texas Monthly they list the "Top 63 Tacos that you must eat before you die" and of course San Antonio has more than it's fair share. I printed a copy for my FIL and we're on a quest to cover the state and re-rate all of their findings. We've got about 20 joints down and 43 to go.... I must say I was surprized by their #2 pick, but I tried it and it was RIGHTEOUS. It's the talapia (fish)tacos at Rosario's downtown. Freakin' Awesome. I've eaten there for years but never tried them. Also noteworthy is Taco Taco at 145 E. Hildebrand (their #14) Also Betos on Alamo.....

Agreed!
Good stuff...nice place.
At the Cove, you could do laundry, order a fish taco, wash your car, get a beer then play some hoops or pool or air hockey...maybe hear a band, all in the same place.
It was a SAAC meeting cruise destination once.
I liked it...many did, others didn't.
I still have pics...I should re-upload them somewheres.
SAAC should go back.
There's probably like 30 kick-ass taco places within a mile radius of my house (San Pedro/Jackson Keller/Blanco area)...and there's always a new one opening, with a never ending supply of fresh genuine Mexican waitresses. :D

What's with that "bag o' water" at the Cove???? Those fish tacos DO look pretty good I must say. Should've been on the TX Monthly list! BTW the #1 taco in Texas (according to them) is the Picadillo taco at a place called "Fuel City" 801 S. Industrial Blvd, Dallas TX. FIL has tried them and said they might actually be the best........so far. The gorgeous bikini-clad chicas lounging around the pool may have influenced him though......:D

Are you talking about the clear baggies of water suspended from the roof over hang?
If you are........that's an old local practice, my Grandma does the same thing at her house. It apparently keeps the ants away, seriously.....
I've never seen ants at my Grandma's house :o

You guys crack me up!!! I knew it was an old tradition of SOME kinda pest control......maybe that's it, it just keeps away ANYTHING that you don't want hanging around!!!! I'll try it at the Fredricksburg show! LOL

Ha!..... I appreciated that probably more than most, that was funny :D
My Granny may have told me it was for flies, come to think of it ? I'll have to ask next time I see her.
We need to start a weird superstition thread before something bad happens..... (knocks knuckles together and taps forehead) :p

I like Taco Taco and a place in Converse called J & J.
I'm more of a burrito (burro) person being from AZ. I like this place called Filabertos. (Chorizo, egg & beans) I'll post pics of the difference between TX tortillas and AZ style. I brought a stash back from AZ over the weekend.

Hey Zonie, check out this description from a friend of mine. I asked him about what to SEE when the Oliver Fam travels across the Southwest this summer on route to the OCTO show and VW Classic in California (My thinly veiled excuse: We're going Disneyland kids!) He wrote mostly about what to EAT!!!!! See if you agree:
Ok, I will speak to AZ
1) It's cliche but all children should see the GRCA - tour it this way... Go up US180 from Flagstaff to US 64. At this junction you can see Bedrock - small theme park based on the Flintstones. Drive through the park stopping at some of the views make it to dinner at the Cameron Trading Post near the junction of US64 and US89. Enjoy the historic dining room (you have to walk through the tourist trap merchandise area) with phenomenal cabinetry and the tin ceiling and get a small Navajo Taco they are the size of a dinner plate. Do not get the full size one, as you will explode your septic system. Spend the night at the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument Campground (make your reservations). Other places to stay - Black Bart's RV park (they also have a steakhouse with singing waiters/ress and occasionally put on a melodrama in the PM) - KOA at the east end of town of 89 - yuk.
2) Flagstaff - Sedona - Jerome! Cruise down 89 A (Leave the big rig behind) from Flag, down the switchbacks into Oak Creek Canyon to Sedona. Pick up some crystals and enjoy the power of the vortex. Continue down US89 to Cottonwood (visit Tuzigoot if you must) and head up to Jerome. Cool mining town located on the side of the Mingus mountains. Phenomenal views of the Verde Valley and San Francisco Peaks. I recommend lunch/dinner at "the Asylum". Old hotel/hospital converted to a kick ass restaurant. Their roast pork tenderloin with prickly pear sauce will make you weep. Also tour the state park there - pretty neat place. Go back to Flag via I-17 and sneak in to Montezuma castle if possible or stop off at the casino - drop the kids off at the arcade or bowling their while the rest donate their money to the local Apache tribe.
****Best hidden secret - gastronomically speaking -in the whole world. The Manzanita Inn. 5 star restaurant in Cornville, AZ. Fantastic food at reasonable prices. Get things such as Scottish wild salmon, etc., and other seasonal items. Chef is a retired French chef from Switzerland. He was head of some cooking guild that got its start in 1016 AD. Has cooked all over the world - I assume very hoity-toity places. Family run operation but world class food. Unbelievable juxtaposition - shares the parking lot with a honky tonk. I had two of the three best meals of my life there (I've only eaten there twice). I miss it terribly.
3)Grand Canyon Caverns - On the way to Cali on I-40 - somewhere near Seligman you take old route 66 for a slight detour. Caverns are kind of neat with an interesting history - slows you down by about 2 hours. Beautiful loop drive back to I-40. Bring various artists rendition of Route 66 as you drive it. I recommend Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole, Manhattan Transfer versions. Also, as you pass through Kingman pay homage to Andy Devine and play Jimmy Buffet's "Pencil Thin Mustache"
Bon Voyage

Ok so it's not really a taco....but you GOTTA try Tommy Moore's Restaurant. It's at the location of the Old "Church's Fried Chicken", on the corner of Hackberry and Durango. It's "soul food" or really just "southern" cooking. It's is AWESOME and clean and nice. It features museum quality exhibits on all the walls of famous African Americans from San Anto.... You get good food AND a history lesson.
and now my joke: How do you say Chicken in Spanish? "Shurshies" :D
(You know you likeded it)
