I missed the show because I forgot about it. No one called, so I didn't go. For some reason I put it down for the 31st. I guess I got it confused with something else that still on for the 31st.

I had my heart set to go to that show. Oh well, it's water under the bridge now!

Wow! Sorry you missed it, Art. I was there all day and kept wondering when you were going get there. It was a good show. Lots of nice cars and lots of good folks. :D

I ran into an old college professor of mine from SFA. He has a 70 VW beetle. He bought in new and still drives it almost every day. It was funny, he had it when I started in 1973, he had when I came back in 1985 to finish my BA, he was still driving it when I came back for grad school in 1990 and is STILL driving it! What a VW Story... ;)

Sorry you missed the show and my apologies for not calling you...:o

I'm the one who can't read a calendar. But I would have enjoyed the show. Can't go to any others since I'm tied down right now. The AMC guys are coming to Rusk April 21 to the drag strip. Still have that to look forward to I guess.

I've been changing the rubber and felt out of the doors on my '69 Beetle. I gotta tell ya, this isn't something I will ever enjoy doing again! I think I'll take the doors off of my '67 and take them somewhere and have them done.

I bought fresh air hoses and new defroster vents for my '69 Beetle long time ago and finally installed it all. That wasn't fun either. I don't plan on doing that ever again either. No wonder people drive around without heaters and defrosters in Beetles. It's so much easier to put on thermal underwear and wipe the windshield with a convenient towel.:D

I finally got some of the photos I took at the Nacogdoches Show posted on my WebLife site. Lets see if this works...

Good pictures of the show. It's almost like I was there! Ha!

I noticed they had the usual good collection of buses as usual and the air conditioned air cooled Beetles were there. I know they did good financially which is good. I guess they didn't need me there after all. :D

I also uploaded the pics to the Aircoolers Gallery. It took me a while to figure it out - and a while to upload (Dial-up... aaaargh!) I had to compress them a little more so they're not quite as clear as the ones on WebLife but they're up there.
Enjoy!

On one of the AMC sites a guy posted a picture of a VW Beetle he owned with an fantastic looking paint job. At least by the pictures it looked good. He said he had done it about five years earlier and was proud of it. Here's the clincher; he did it with only two quarts of paint and with Rustoleum! The Rustoleum you buy in the quart containers.

He said it was labor intense, but he used a foam roller and rolled the paint on each body section. Then wet sanded it through at least 3 different levels of sand paper, forget which grits he used. Then rolled on another layer and wet sanded more. He did this 'till he had a glossy shine after buffing it out. He was telling us this because he was going to do this again, but on some AMC car he had since it had worked so good.

I'm telling you, his Beetle looked great! I know this is a lot of trouble, but if you don't have a clean place to spray this might be as good a way to paint as any. I might question his choice of paint brands though.
