Whats up ppl. I am a recent convert to the world of air cooled VW's. I just purchased my first Beetle, a 1969 std 1399cc 4 spd. I love it, it is the most fun you can have. I have noticed that it takes alot of work to keep these things on the road, and its worth it. I am a 4x4 guy so the work dosent bother me, but i am new to the little quirks these guys have. any love would be appreciated. I just fixed the wiring in it, new front brakes, and now my clutch cable broke.
I need to figure out how to get the pedal cluster back in, with the pedals staying upright. I get the cables hooked up, and the pushrod for the brake mc hooked up, and then the pedals fall to the floor. any tips would be a saving grace!!!!
I know im a newbie, so I expect to be flogged. But im stuck.
Hey man, welcome to the gang. Glad to have you aboard.
As for your pedals, are all your parts in place? Check to make sure the metal "stop" is still there. It's #18 in this diagram.

I use a small zip tie to keep the cable on the hook as you put it back in the tunnel. The first time you step on the clutch, the zip tie will break off and just fall inside. doesn't hurt a thing.

A bread twist tie works also..

As for the pedal stop, it bolts to the floorboard right?

all you guys helped out alot! I got the pedals back in and its going strong. Thanx you guys have given me the greatest welcome to your gang.
The gentleman who sold me the car told me it was a 1399cc motor, i guess i could do some research rather than take his word for it, but like i said before, im very green when it comes to these cars. If you know what I should look for to find out what the displacement is, please share. thanx again.

It most likely has a 1600cc engine, but with these cars you never know with all the engine swapping that goes on.
