Gas tank problem in a dune buggy

I am tryin to get the Dune Buggy I bought a few weeks ago put together. I am having problems finding a tank that allows the front clip to fit properly. I have tried a 70's style gas tank, but the front part of the tank does not allow the front clip to sit right. The front part of the tank that is a bit high and hits. It is a manx style buggy. I will try to attach a picture to help. Any suggestions would be great. I have ruined 2 tanks trying to lower the height on the front.

I have a type 3 and 60 bus tank you can look at and try to make it work.
