Pharr, my old home town!!!! I love that place, especially them Botana platters ;)

Last time I was there there was a VW shop in N. Pharr. It's on E. Ferguson Ave (FM 495) between 281 and "I" Road. From Edinburg just go S. on 281, exit Fergusen ave (FM495), turn left under the freeway and the shop is about a 1/2 mile down on the right. There are quite a few old vw's in there, you can see 5 of them facing the road on this pic. Some are for sale too. Maybe you can go by there and take some pics for us to see.

Nina,

Thats Bermeas you are talking about. I just bought some parts from them for my Bug. They are very helpful. There is an "old greybeard" mechanic who has been working on VWs forever. This guy is a walikng encyclopedia on VWs.
Their prices are very reasonable.
I'll go by and get some pics.
What part of Pharr are you from?

I was raised on the NE side of Pharr. On E. Wright ave, 2 streets from N. Fir St. . About 8 blocks N. of the original Pharr high school on Business 83. How bout you? Always in Edinburg?

Wow! My wife grew up on Wright street as well. Wright and Cypress to be exact.
I am actually from Pharr too. I grew up on Kelly about three blocks from the Bears Football Stadium.
How long since you moved away?

Damn, it's a small world ain't it? I graduated in 80', moved to Cali in 88', then to Austin in 96', been here ever since.

They won't sell the double cab because of how much stuff you would have to move to get it out, and I think the single cab used to belong to the old man Bermea, and they won't sell that either, I am forever asking, it's really nice. The owners name is Greg and the mechanics name is Oscar, they are pretty honest people. When I can't fix something on my cars myself I take it to them. They always have or know someone who has VWs for sale. Hey Texas Deuce did you see the green fastback that is for sale just west of bermeas on 495?

acvwgrgv,

No I didn't see it. I have to go check on my bug at the body shop today so I'll look for that fastback.

You going to Sonic tonight?

We weren't able to make it out tonight. A heater hose busted on our van and I don't go to car events without my son (it is just not the same).

We should be able to get out there next week.

A friend of my family has a body shop in Pharr and has done several cars for me and my brothers. I've redone acouple of old AD Series Chevy Trucks, an Edsel and an an old Model A over the years and he's done the body work.

He does good metal work and puts out a great product for very reasonable prices.

He really likes bugs and knows them very well. He used to drive them for "La Prensa" newspapers in Reynosa during the sixties, so he knows them inside out.
